For over a thousand years, farmers in the hills of Lishui have sculpted this mountainside into more than 700 stepped paddies that ripple silver in spring flood season and gold at autumn harvest. Mist drifts through the terraces at dawn, turning an ancient feat of irrigation engineering into one of China's most photogenic rural landscapes.
