This serene urban lake changed Chinese history in 1921, when delegates of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China finished their founding meeting aboard a red boat on its waters. Today the lakeside park pairs that revolutionary memorial — the red boat replica and museum — with misty causeways, lotus ponds, and pavilions beloved by morning strollers.
