Ten minutes from downtown Hangzhou, Xixi is a 1,150-hectare maze of ponds, streams, and misty reed beds — China's first national wetland park. Pole a flat-bottomed boat through the waterways, wander the stilted fishermen's villages and plum groves, and spot egrets and kingfishers in a wetland the city has protected since the Ming dynasty.
