Memorial Scenic Area of the First, Second and Fourth National Congresses of the CPC

The shikumen stone-gate house at 76 Xingye Road is where 13 delegates, including a young Mao Zedong, secretly founded the Communist Party of China in July 1921. Life-size wax figures recreate the clandestine meeting; surrounding galleries trace the party's origins and early struggles. Now a vast memorial complex in Xintiandi, it is the starting point of China's red tourism and free to enter.
