Linhai's ancient walled city has guarded the Ling River since the Jin dynasty, its 6,000 meters of ramparts — dubbed the 'Great Wall of the South' — climbing steeply over forested ridges. Walk the battlements for river-and-rooftop panoramas, then descend into streets of Ming and Qing courtyard houses, temples, and the old prefectural yamen.
